2 good questions for the Cert Vets

edembyedemby Member Posts: 13 ■□□□□□□□□□
If you pursue 2 different certs in the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) line, will it require starting as a new Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in each different lines of specialization?

If you've seen the list of beta tests ( on the pearsonvue site for instance) that are soon to be fully released, you will notice additional branches for MS certification. How will something like "TS: Microsoft Windows Mobile Designing, Implementing, and Managing" plan into a person making thier way towards obtaining the MCA or will there be a bunch of little specialists?

I hope these questions are clear enough icon_rolleyes.gif

yes you would have to be an MCTS in each line - it is my understanding you get an MCTS for each test you pass.

You'll need the prerequisite that each MCITP or MCDP requires. The MCTS tests will be unique for each path. I'd check out the MCP page for full descriptions of what Microsoft requires for the certifications.

Where can I find information on the new or soon to be certification tree?
how many different lines will there be?
how many tests for the Vista line, from MCTS to MCITP?

Click on the link I provided in my last post. All the information about all of Microsoft's tests are available through their MCP site.

this whole new certification thing is cool between us cert jockeys but I think HR is gonna have a hard time figuring out this new alphabet soup. Its hard enough for recruiter understand what you do, now this...
I guess we can hope it catches on soon.

As far as "developers call themselves MCITPs too" - hopefully the standard number of pages for a resume will be 3, because now you HAVE to give a description of your cert to distinguish it from others. I understand that all these new cert will be available to help distinguish one qualified candidate from another based on the focuses that apply to the job, but will that be career limiting for others?

it will be interesting to see how all this plays out over the next few years.
