Does going for these certs make sense?

MitMMitM Member Posts: 622 ■■■■□□□□□□
I've been taking it easy on studying lately, trying to figure out what certification to work on next. I've been reviewing CCNP R&S material for topics that I don't use day-day, so time hasn't really been wasted. All the certs in my profile are active. When I switched over from being a windows/virtualization admin to a network engineer, I decided to let my VCP expire.

While, I like networking, I do miss working on the virtualization side of things, as well. I was considering starting to study for CCIE R&S, but I'm having second thoughts on it. Instead, I am now considering adding the below to my learning plan

AWS Solution Architect
VMware NSX (VCP-NV)
Azure
Possibly Cisco ACI, as well.

I guess I'd like to have a blend of virtualization/server/network/cloud, but I'm not sure if this makes sense, or if I'm all over the place

Any guidance is appreciated

I would go with whatever cert would make you more competitive for the next position you would like to be in no matter if it's an internal or external position or I would to with a cert in a technology that you are interested in.

SDN and Cloud are good things to consider to keep ahead of the curve, and the ones you've listed are all fairly safe bets. If you are thinking of CCIE, then another option could be to get another CCNP specialisation. CCDA/CCDP might also be worthwhile.

I passed one exam of CCNP Security, because I was going that route. I was focusing on network security, but not sure I want to chase threats. I've always had an interest in cloud and virtualization and I'm probably much better suited for the data center. I'd really like to a role that combines all of these, if that makes sense. CCNP Data Center is another option for me, but the problem is always available rack time for hands on. I have definitely considered CCDA/CCDP too

Does combining AWS and SDN make sense, or is it better to focus on one of them?
