Am I selling myself correctly?

Relocating to Florida and been applying to various IT positions. I've had a few phone interviews but have noticed that I find myself stumbling on the phone.

Came up with the following Q&A to be more prepared for future conversations. What do u all think?

1. What is your current role and responsibilities?

I'm currently a Data Center Engineer for JP Morgan Chase. I'm part of the Data Center Operations team or DCO. I support the daily operations of Chase's largest Data Center In the United States; roughly 180,000 square feet, housing over 50,000 devices. My responsibilities include responding to trouble tickets, troubleshooting copper and fiber cabling, and troubleshooting servers and switches connectivity issues. Also racking and stacking various IT infrastructure devices such as HP, Dell, and IBM servers, Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, blade server systems, and cabling of such devices following the physical topology diagram specified by Chase's provisioning team. I also run and cable connections in the cross connects, decommission End of Life devices, escort vendors, and work directly with Server Administrators and Chase's Network Operations Center to respond to arising issues relating to the Physical layer through the Network layer of the OSI model. Lastly, I also configure and test the iLO and iDRAC TCP/IP settings of HP and Dell servers for remote management.

2. What are your salary requirements?

My salary requirements are $25-$30 per hour or $52,000-$62,000 yearly.

3. What type of work are you looking for?

Ideally I'm looking for full time employee positions but will consider contract to hire positions as well.

Is #1 for you or an employer? Either way, I would bullet point it more and make them strong individual points. Also, get rid of a bunch of the "also" words...you have them in every sentence starting about halfway through.

Its odd that you sound so petty, given the extremity of what you do. Escorting vendors? **** them.

You configure, test, and implement virtualized networks in an enterprise data center environment. Why even mention cable runs? Do you want to run cables?

I am assuming your experience is limited as the resort to any and all experience, but you need to hone in on what employers want, and they hire 3rd party people to run cabling - You need to represent yourself as a serious virtual networking professional.

If you are in Miami, drop me a PM if you have no work at all, I can pull a string to get you an interview for a help desk just to get some income.

It depends on what you're trying to sell yourself as. When I hear Data Center Engineer I tend to think more of the config/design/fix side but it sounds like you're doing more rack&stack/cabling and some tier 1 ticket routing? And, you can do what you want of course, but I try to avoid what MY salary requirements are until I have an idea of what they actually pay there, or at least try to pry a range out before I potentially sell myself short.

It sounds like you got some decent experience at your job....
or at least it reads that way.

Obviously, you are looking for something better?

My advice, figure out what you want to do next.
Craft your resume to tell that story.

    GET at higher level Certification.

Also, Stating your own Salary range to Employers convey assumptions about your level of experience.
    (both Good & Bad)

    good luck

How many years of experience do you have? Do you have any degrees?
