Passed the Network+ today...Not easy.

So I passed the exam today with a 735. I honestly wasn't sure I passed until I saw the screen saying Congratulations. This was a very difficult exam in my opinion. The way the questions were asked seemed totally different than when I took my A+ exams.

I had been studying for a while and had actually rescheduled the exams about 3 times before actually taking it. I have to say that in order to pass this exam you have to know your stuff. Impossible to know exactly what's you're going to be tested on. A person should be confident with everything on the objectives.

I had 2 performance based questions. One was about subnetting/CIDR notation and the other about setting up a network with multiple VLANs. There was no in between with the multiple choice questions, they were either very easy or very difficult.

I wish I had done better as a score of 735 is not the greatest but I guess at the end of the day, a pass is a pass. I'm just glad I can check off this exam as done and done. I'm super excited I'm Network+ certified at last. Next on the horizon for me is Security+ and then the newly released CSA+.

As far as Security+, noticed the new version 501 is coming out in October. Haven't found study guides yet for the new version. Looks like they'll be released later in the fall. Was thinking of just studying for and taking the current 401 version but since I want to take a little break, I guess I'll wait for the 501.

In the mean time I think I'm going to take the Microsoft MTA 98-366 Sever Fundamentals. It's only $110 and it's one I think would help me for when I take the Microsoft MCSA Windows Sever 70-410 to 70-412 exams. Working as a Data Center Technician has increased my interest in learning about servers and that part of IT.

Parting words, don't give up. As long as you are determined and study/work hard, the sky is the limit. God bless...

Congrats! icon_cheers.gif Yes, a pass is a pass. You've got it. I would have made the same decision about waiting for the new version of the Sec+.

Thank you for also answering a question I had concerning what the screen would look like at the end of an exam. Best of luck to you on the Sec+ and enjoy your break!

Congrats. The Network+ was a tough exam.

I think it would better not to wait for the 501. Reason is because there is a lot of study material out there for the current Security+. The new Security+ that's coming out seems to go in a whole different direction that the 401 and prior versions did. It's like an entirely different test this time. They made the current version of the Network plus harder than the previous versions (although the objectives were about the same) so I think the new version of the Security+ test will be harder than usual as well... but that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the replies and congrats. Decided to take the current 401 version and not wait around for the 501 to be released. Will take a little break though before starting to study/prepare for it. Moving next month and got a lot going on at the moment.

Congrats! I passed it on Monday, and did not expect to get a passing score after I finished. A pass is a pass though!

Congratulations! You know what they call a guy who graduates from Medical School at the bottom of his class? DOCTOR!

You should take the Sec+ as soon as possible. I think CompTia is raising the bar on their exams as people kinda thumb their noses at them as "entry level" or "easy cert".

I passed Sec+ in 2014 with 10 days study and using only Darril Gibson's book. My wife (who is a pretty smart cookie) did the latest exam a month ago and she also used the latest Gibson book and the extra exam questions and she told me she barely passed by the skin of her teeth! I take her admission to heart because I know she's smarter than me (Don't let her know I said so!).

I reviewed some of her practice test questions and noted that some of those were on par the CISSP!

So, yes, take the exams before they get even harder. After that it's just about shelling out $$$ to get CPE credits and renew the cert every few years.
