I got the JOB, first network engineer role!

I just landed my first network engineer gig and I'm super excited. For the past 2 years, I've worked as a network administrator. My projects were split around 60% network related tasks and 40% server / workstation / application issues. I learned as much as I could there, but networking is where my passion is. This forum has been a tremendous help along the way.

I'm hoping to find a network administrator role like you are moving away from. I'm sure I could learn a few more things in my current desktop support role but I really want to transition in networking already.

Update: I just accepted an offer for a network engineer position in the private sector. I'm excited about taking on new challenges and a $20,000 bump in pay doesn't hurt either. lol

Update: Today is my second day on the job and feeling a little overwhelmed. We use cisco, brocade, extreme, Arista, juniper, Palo Alto and more. The size of the network is a lot bigger than I'm used to. The senior engineers are very knowledgeable. Documentation is held in very high regard. Projects are plentiful. I'm loving it so far.

Congrats on the new position! The new position that you got sounds exciting. Do you get to touch all of the equipment or are you only touching Cisco equipment?

Always better to be overwhelmed than underwhelmed.

I don't think any employer would expect you to be spooled up in two days. Heck, some places may take upwards to 3-6 months before your newbie leash is removed. :P

Congrats dude! I'm hoping to migrate to a Network role once I pass my CCNA. I will say that my desktop support job has given me a really solid foundation in many different areas that I can build from in my Networking role.
