The functions are
Physical characterstics
Representation of bits
Data rate
Synchronisation of bits
Line configuration
Physical topology
Transmission medium

Could there be a mnemonic phrase to remember the functions.
Please suggest!!!!!:)

    icon_scratch.gif You need to know what happens on the physical layer... Hubs, Nics, cables etc

    If we had to memorize all that, no one would pass.

    I passed Net+ on the first attempt, and never used such a mnemonic. Basically, if you can touch it or get a shock from it, it's probably on the physical layer. Routers and switches being the exceptions here since they have to "think" about where to send traffic.

    Hope that helps

    SAPTDNP :)

    To Remember think this:

    SAP = Big Company SAP
    TD = The big TD BANK
    NP = Nurse Practitioner

    S = Session
    A = Application
    P = Presentation
    T = Transport
    D = Data Layer
    N = Network Layer
    P = Physical Layer

    SAP = Application Layer (Apps) }
    T = Transport (TCP / UDP, etc) } Software
    DNP = Network Layer (Hub, Switch, Router) } Hardware

    I just made this up while studying the other day. Seem to stick.

    Forgive me, I'm a little confused lol. Wouldn't it be:

    A - Application
    P - Presentation
    S - Session
    T - Transport
    N - Network
    D - Data
    P - Physical

    Or are they just mnemonics to help remember the names not the order?
