Moving into Server Role

Hello,
I'm thinking of moving from the Cisco world to the Microsoft world, looking around MCSA 2012 and 2016 are the current options, but which one should I study? I have avoid Microsoft background be it server 2003 / 2008, I'm just confused on what cert to take, 2012 or 2016 and your reasons please.

2012.
i dont know anyone on 2016. people still use 03 and mostly 08.2019 Goals

The general recommendation from the communities I follow say unless you have a prevailing reason to get the MCSA 2016, the MCSA 2012 is still very relevent. Realistically, most organizations won't be migrating to 2016 for at least another 1-3 years on average and as Cisco Inferno said many are still figuring out how to get onto 2012/R2.
There were some significant changes between 2012 and 2016 but nothing so much that learning one won't at least prepare you somewhat for the other. I just started my 2016 study and so far, with the exception of Nano Server, it has been mostly review of the 2012 content.
If you expect to take a couple of years getting your certification, you may want to consider 2016 though as by the time you'd be done more orgs would be moving to it.2019 Goals: Security+
