MCSE Exam Question

I recently passed the 70-533 and now studying for the MCSA Server 2016. I noticed this statement found here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/mcse-cloud-platform-infrastructure.aspx

“Pass one of the following exams during the 2017 calendar year”.

Let's say I complete 70-740 and 741 this year, and then 742 in 2018, does that mean I need to take another exam for the MCSE or will my 70-533 apply, granting me the MCSE and making 2019 the year I would have to take another exam to keep it active?

Thanks!

You are a little inspecefic about what you currently have. So I'll try to cover all the bases.

MCSE is no longer version specific or expiring. What this means is the MCSE exams do not apply to Server 2012 or 2016 specifically. The content is based on one OS version but if you have an MCSA 2012 and take the 70-744, you are an MCSE. Likewise if you are an MCSA 2016 and you pass the 70-413, you are an MCSE.

MCSEs no longer expire. It is valid as long as the OS it was released with is supported. You are encouraged to recertify (and I believe retake tests) yearly. Basically your certification status is on you.

Thanks for the reply. All I have passed so far is the 70-533. I'm currently studying for the 70-740. Basically my situation is reverse from what you described. Instead of taking 70-440,441,442 first then taking the 70-533 for the MCSE, I took the 70-533 first.

I'm assuming that once I complete my 70-440,441,442 (most likely will finish in 201icon_cool.gif I will not only receive the MCSA: Server 2016, but also MCSE: Cloud Platform because I already passed the 70-533 in 2017. My assumption is it doesn't matter what order these are taken it, but the “Pass one of the following exams during the 2017 calendar year” is confusing me.

I've never tried them out of order but I imagine you are correct: pass the tests, in any order, and you will be both MCSA and MCSE.

    Good luck!

So the new MCSE has nothing to do with old MCSE? is old, expired MCSE of any use for mcse or mcsa fast tracking?

The old MCSE corresponds to Server 2000/2003 and there isn't an upgrade path to 2012/2016 with that as far as I know.
