I dont have a lot of experience with Azure AD, but all deployment I did was because we added Office 365 and we wanted to replicate the internal AD. -

Thanks Steve! So did your users have to authenticate to azure ad and adfs? -

It was only to replicate the on-promise AD to the Exchange online.
