CIW Certification

Taking this Web Development Foundations class through WGU and it seems that there is a CIW certification for this class.

Does this certification hold any weight? Has anyone gotten a job with this certification? I mean is it resume-worthy?

    I don't know much about this cert. The only site I can find posting jobs asking for CIW certification is CIW's site. Most of the ads are DoD positions, and none have post dates. I get a grim first impression on its value.

    I took a bunch of them @WGU, didn't list a single one on my resume or LinkedIn.

    Have never seen them reference in any job ad I've ever looked at.

    Only reason I know they exist is because of the sheer number of WGU people here and they have to get them as part of their program.

    These are lower level or entry level certificates, while useful, it's not necessary for any position (depending on position actually - if you are a novice in web development, it is useful). If you have no or very few certificates, I would list these on your resume. If you already have a few, save the space.

    I'm currently taking it. I almost think it's a filler class for some of their programs. It would definitely help somebody looking for entry level web dev work as it's a focused cert and shows interest, but outside of that, I think most would want to see examples and demonstration of ability when hiring. As some said, if you're new to IT and don't have the experience or a number of certs, it definitely won't hurt.

    To validate any certification's worth, simply use a job search site like Indeed, Dice, Monster, etc.. and look for that certification. I personally like Indeed due to the metrics that are available on the left hand column. While these metrics aren't 100% spot on, they are decent sample of the job market within a given region. I typically leave the location region information blank to start with and then add the city where I live afterwards and compare the differences.

    Here's an example of the "Salary Estimate" results form Indeed with the number of jobs descriptions listed within the parenthesis next to each salary bracket.
