VCP6-DCV or VCP6.5-DCV?

Been using vSphere/ESXi/PowerCLI for quite a few years now, but am not certified. Finally decided to get it done.

Should I opt for the VCP6-DCV or VCP6.5-DCV? Pros/Cons?

Thanks.

Which training class did you take?

Haven't taken one yet. But am looking to take the 'VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale' course either [V6] or [V6.5].

6.5 is more future proof and should provide more learning opportunities. Although it's a point release, 6.5 brings a huge major change, no more thick client and an HTML5 client, along with vUM in vCSA.

Architecturally, there was a big change between 6.0 (SUSE) to 6.5 (Photon), but functionality changes were minor. You'll probably have a harder time finding a V6 class vs. V6.5.

I continued with 6. Only made sense given I had worked towards it previous, and all my resources were 6. StanlyCC are still doing the 6 course.

There are more exam resources available for 6.0, so you might find preparation is easier - but having a 6.5 VCP makes you “current”.

Thank you all for your input.

I've decided to go for the VCP6-DCV.

Anyway, you will have to maintain it every 2 years.. I renewed with VCP 6 in Fev 2017, I will do VCP 7(or whatever version) in Fev 2019

You are VCP :) unless I am mistaken, VMware removed much of the version number attached to the cert after moving to a 2 years renewal cycle instead of per version.
