Am I really not qualified for a Comcast Comtech 1?

I figured didn't get the job with Comcast as a Comtech 1 when I went in for interview over summer and never heard back from them. The Comtech 1 is basically just going to houses and running wires in house and setting up cable/ internet service for clients in the house. In interview they said they would train you for 13 weeks no previous experience needed. It was $14/hr starting pay.

A candidate they interviewed and hired was a lady in my town I know. She had no previous experience doing anything remotely similar to this. I talked to her about computers and networking in waiting room before they interviewed us and she said she has trouble with computers couldn't understand them. Didn't know much about TV's and not a clue about networking. No computer degree, no certs, no college, had not worked in the workforce for over 15 years.

I have a computer degree, Microsoft certs, A+, N+, S+, 2 years previous experience in IT field.

I just was baffled when I got rejection letter and they told me I didn't have the work history or skills to do the job, yet they hired that lady who had no college degree, certs, didn't seem to know a clue about computers or networking, and had not worked in over 15 years.

Do I truly not have the previous experience or skills for this job? DID 1 Year doing php/ web development and this past year been working as a laptop technician.
Just confused...

This. It happens a lot actually, and it's pretty sad. I was told my by bosses that when I was hired they had to submit a paper to HR why they didn't hire someone who was black, Asian, etc. I balked at that and said that was absolutely ridiculous.

Looking back on when i first applied for this job, got the interview and hired on. I applied for this job when I lived in another state, 8 hours away. The fact that they couldn't find any reputable candidates where i moved to does not surprise me in the least anymore....once i moved down here and saw for myself.

Trust me man, structural engineering is where your future resides. Preferably at a site that hasn't been inspected by OSHA lately and has no safety personnel on duty...

Trust me, you don't want to work in the field (or as CS or Tech support) for a telecomm company. You are better off flipping burgers. It's just one pissed-off customer after another. The phone techs offer no support at all. All they do is send techs out to deal with the customer and most problems can't be fixed because the problem lies in the infrastructure.

Then why on earth are you trying to get a telecom job?

Look, I know you live in a depressed area. I do, too. If you want a better IT job than Laptop Tech, you have to be willing to commute long distances everyday or move. That's just the way it is. But for pete's sake, don't bother with telecom! By "telecom", I mean cable, phone, satellite, etc.
