MAC/CAM table overflow protection on 2960 switch?

Hey all,

I was trying to flood my MAC/CAM table on my 2960 switch and it stops taking new MACs at 4024, with a total of 4064 leaving 40 and keeping it from crashing. In my CCNA security studies i have never heard of this and thought without protection from port-security, etc that the switch would always crash. My question is...Is this some sort of built in protection in the newer Switch IOS? I am running a WS-C2960-48TT-L with c2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-2.SE9.bin

Thanks in advance for any ideas on why this is automatically being prevented.

    The switch doesn't usually crash it just stops being able to add more entries to the table and instead floods them.

    Right, but the switch is automatically stopping at 4024 MACs when full capacity is 4064, so it never gets to flood.
