Hi all,

By passing one of the Server 2016 exams does that automatically 'give you' a MCP?
Certs: CompTIA A+, MTA: Server Admin, CCST - Networking & Azure Fundamentals.

From when I took my first exams, whenever you pass a 70-xxx series Microsoft exam, you become an MCP. They may have changed that to include MTA certs that are entry-level as well.

If you pass all three 70-740, 70-741 and 70-742 then you automatically get MTA Fundamentals Cert now and I am sure it will be in Networking.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

I had a look at the Microsoft link that PCTechLinc provided. Then went to this blog site: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/uktechnet/2017/06/30/complete-windows-server-certification-guide-mta-mcsa-and-mcse/

Have a look at this image from the blog site:
    https://msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net/media/2017/06/cloud_platform_infrastructure_wserver.png

What I get from the image is that if I pass the 70-740/741/742 exams, this will automatically give me an MCSA (Windows Server 2016).
Then if I continued to do the 70-744 (Securing Windows Server 2016) I would have a MCSE?
Certs: CompTIA A+, MTA: Server Admin, CCST - Networking & Azure Fundamentals.

Yes, that's how they combine certain exams/certs. I received not only my MCSA: Server 2008, but also MCITP by passing 70-640, 70-642, 70-646.

Ok. Awesome. I think I'll study for the 70-740 and take the exam. I'll at least get an MCP or MTA with just the one exam. Plus since 2016 MS announced that they are good for life, so I won't have to renew it every 3 years.

You won't get any certs for Server 2016 such as MCP until you pass all three exams. I've done 70-740 and 70-741 and i have not had any certs for them yet only to say I've passed both exams on my transcript.

    ^^

I was under this impression. When I started my journey recertifying, I did 98-369 (MTA: Cloud Fundamentals) just to get something current under my belt. That got me an MTA as expected. At that time my previous certs; MCSA Server 2003 and MCP: XP were showing up in an area on my transcript labeled "legacy" and non-active.

When I did my first 70-xxx series exam, 70-698, MCP "re-showed" up as an active certification next to the MTA I had just got. My impression was your "first" MCSA, MCSE, MCSD level exam got you an MCP.

More curious was Malachi's comment about the MTA being given for 740,741,742? I don't see that reflected on my transcript, the MTA I got was completely outside of anything else and prior to the others. I might have misread his comment, I'll look back.

Okay. So, in a nutshell passing just one of the 70 - xxx series exams doesn't give you an MCP/MTA?
Certs: CompTIA A+, MTA: Server Admin, CCST - Networking & Azure Fundamentals.
