Hi all,

2 x Cisco 1601 Serial / Ethernet Router 16D/4F IP Plus 12.2
Cisco 1912 Switch with Enterprise IOS
1 x serial DB60-DB60 crossover cable
4 x cat 5E straight-through cables
2 x cat 5E crossover cables
1 x RJ45 / DB9 console cables

Thanks very much everyone.

I'm not the expert on Cisco, but I think that equipment is pretty old. I think if you do a search on the forum for "CCNA Lab" you'll find the recommended equipment. I'm thinking 2500 series stuff, but not positive.

I want to setup my own home lab what should I buy and how do I set it up?

Hi and thanks for the replies so far. I realise this kit might be old but if loaded with the latest IOS does it matter or is it just the case that you are better off with newer equipment.

    Thnaks all!!

Switch should be OK, a 2950 is better.

Routers may be OK, aslong as it can run your routing protocols (RIP,EIGRP,OSPF).
    Now working full time!

I would stick to 2500 or newer routers. Im pretty sure they are the oldest equipment that will run everything needed for the ccna.

    Ive got a 2501, 2505, 2514 off of ebay for 20-40 usd a peice.

also many of the cables needed can be found on ebay for pretty cheap:
console cables and DCE/DTE for less than $10.
