Two potential job offers, help me choose.

Job #1: Manager at a consulting firm (big 4)

Pros:
- work is 4 days a week (part time-ish), this help me focus more on the MBA, an other hobbies

- work is very business oriented and away from technical, this aligns well with my career plans

- Work with different customers

- Will be dealing with C-level executives and GMs predominantly

Con:
- Lower pay

Job #2: SOC manager

Pros:
- Get to build the SOC from the scratch, do the hiring, establish processes, ..etc

- A step up for me in responsibilities

- Significantly higher pay

Cons:
- Work in the same office, this tends to bore me after some time (first world problem I know, but I prefer the rush of change)

- I still need to be on the technical side, but not for long

I'd pick the one that has the more attractive women working there, 15 percent of people met there significant other at work, 2nd most common way to find a mate. If you going to play in the pool, might as well be the one with sexier people.

P.S. Getting involved with someone at work is a really bad idea, don't take my advise, including this one.

Spoke too soon!

Job #2 (Soc manager) Rejection, their was that I meet all their requirement and 'it was such a close call', but they picked the other candidate (only two of us made it to the final round) due to better cultural fit.

I thanked and told them that I enjoyed the interview process lol

I'm actually happy about it. I really didn't want it, and if I don't get job #1 then I'm happy to stay where I'm at

Consulting Manager is a hell of a position, you'll get sick of it very fast. Even more if the payroll is lower

Wish I have an answer....they were meant to come back to me 2-3 weeks ago....they call every now and then and ask for another detail they need to "prepare" my contract! So - according to them - I should hear very soon....now this could be today or in two weeks time...I'm hoping this week....

They've been VERY accommodating to my demands..which is brilliant. A step up for me. I'll be managing consultants & senior consultants, and work on strategy.

You mean my requirements? I didn't have salary requirements, my requirements were around working hours

Not much at all, it's not a pay increase. Big 4 are known for lower salaries (unless u are a director and above). They paid me on the higher end of the manager range which is good for me. I also negotiated reduced hours, I do have side businesses and other stuff that I do so salary increase wasn't my motivation....not in the short term anyway
