Methods of Switching?

Theres, Store and Forward, Cut-through and Fragment Free.

My book talks about the 1900 which i hear no longer is in the exam. What is the default switching method for switches such as the 2950 and above?

I've searched for this topic quite a bit in the past - the best I could come up with is that the 1900 and 2950 use store and forward and there is no way to change that.

Hopefully someone can chime in either way.

The switch always uses the store-and-forward method: complete packets are stored and checked for errors before transmission.

So you can't change this in your network ? If you had a fairly new install of what is essentially a static network with few probable changes, you couldn't switch to say cut-through if you thought you could get away with it ? Even if it did fail, your company work and network wasn't so critical that you would be hampered by the time it took to fix the problem manually. If this is the case, do you have to buy a particular switch depending on the frame passing you require?
