Our first was a 286, it cost like 2K. I don't miss those days. With the Huge Monitor that took up half the desk. lol

You must have been so cool. I distinctly remember being envious of people with a 286. My first was 6502 based and then I had a 8086.

The TI-99/4A was on my list, primarily because of the built in voice synthesizer chip.  I was making plans to attach it to a moped with a battery and power invertor to make a talking moped... ala Knight Rider.

Opted for the C-64 instead because of the sprite graphics chip...didn't get the moped til 27 years later!

The first computer I owned was a circa 1980 Zenith HZ-89A with 64K RAM and running CP/M-80. It was like owning an old VW Bug that you constantly tinkered with.

The good old days, where you stored games on a discount audio cassette (bought in three-packs).

I used a paper hole punch to clip the other side of a 5-1/4 floppy so I could write to the other side of it, making it double-sided. I could store more games on a single floppy that way.

Great to see this thread blew up!

I truly attribute my success to the C64. Got it for a xmas present as a kid. My parents had no idea what they were buying me, but it was "electronic", so they knew I would like it. 🤣

It's what really sparked my interest in comps., sitting there for hours upon hours with that book haha trying to make it do what I wanted and then seeing the results were awesome.

The coolest thing that I had with my first computer was a Novation Cat. I saved for months to get that thing so I could have actual full-duplex communications.
