GMON Study Index Template

Apparently the GMON doesn't get much love in these forums lol I was wondering if anyone has a index template for the SEC511 GMON that they'd be willing to share? I am going to craft my own index of course but I am hoping to get a draft so I don't have to start from scratch. Any help is very much appreciated

No two indexes are alike. Doing it from scratch will absolutely maximize your learning experience.

Is this you first GIAC test?

Yes, this is my first GIAC test. I don't want to copy the content I moreover want a blank, structured index to fill in my own notes.

When you say "blank, structured index", do you just mean formatting? If so, can check these to use as a model:

I haven't played with it but some recommend Voltaire:

@cyberguypr @Randy_Randerson I have a new question to pose - Are they're any "study plans/calendars" that give you day by day topics to review up until your access is up?

There is not. The course is only 5 days (~ 30 hours w/o breaks and lunch) of material. How I've always done my indices and studying is a methodical approach. Meaning I take Book 1 and spend a week going through it. Then rinse and repeat. The first day I am simply putting down anything that is jumping out at me: Tools, Concepts, Exploits, etc. If there are core concepts I know I've struggled with in the past (i.e. SSL/TLS encryption) then I make sure to put that stuff in the indices even more detailed. The reason I like Volitare is that you have more than enough room for notes so I can give myself a reminder when multiple books/pages will have a specific concept described (i.e. SQLi). This helps jog your memory when you're in the test.

Next, I do the labs again. I take screenshots of specific tools and their outputs so I can understand what is going on. Remember, your index doesn't have to just be an index, it is an open-book/open-note exam.

Day 3-5 is just reading and highlighting. Any concepts that are described in detail get highlighted.

Day 6 - Quick Review of the index/labs (typically there usually only 3-4 labs a day)

    Day 7 - Relax
