Anyone Still Working on Server 2012r2 Cert

Louie1277Louie1277 Member Posts: 505 ■■■□□□□□□□
Just wondering if most of you have moved on from taking the 410/411/412?  Am I the only one still trying to get this cert... I have been away from taking the exam for a while since I ran into a family issue that I had to stop everything. I'm getting back into it now but I feel I'm a little late to the game. I passed my 410 exam still working on my 411. Next month I'm taking my exam for the 411. Should I continue or move on to 2016?

Just wondering, hope everyone is having a good hot night.

I actually flunked the 98-365, which is good for the MTA version of the MCSA you're getting, as I explained here. Windows Server is a beast, even worse because I've never used it.

If I was in your position, I would finish it too.  No point doing half a job and Server 2012 isn't going anywhere soon.

Thanks for the advice. I will continue it until I finish plus I didn't know about taking 1 exam for 2016. I thought you had to take other 3 exams for the 2016 cert. I will have to read some more on that once I'm done with this one.

If you need some material for the 70-410 exam let me know. I have a couple of pdf files I saved and some for the 411. Sharing is caring for me plus I like to help other techies when they need it. I learned everything by myself. When I did ask for help I was laughed at. Some users on here help me with sites and other material so I'm willing to do the same for people that need the help.

I appreciate it but honestly the 70-series exams are way, way more in-depth than the MTA. I'm working through as best I can with a practice exam.

I was in the same boat for the 2008 exams back in the day. Now I am studying for the 2008 > 2012 upgrade exam (70-417). I'll then go for the 2016 upgrade. It probably worth it in your case because it will cost the same amount of exam but you'll get two generations of certification.

Definitely still worth it!! I got a major pay bump with the MCSE when I changed jobs in the last year. Just my two cents

If you have already started 2012, go ahead and finish it - I found the knowledge gap between 2012 and 2016 for the ugprade exam to be not huge (docker and the new hyper-v stuff were the biggies, IIRC).  Of course this was 18+ months ago.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...

There are the cheaper retake options if you go to the MS exam website.

I currently hold the below certs:

Microsoft® Certified Solutions Expert: Productivity Charter Member
Microsoft® Certified Solutions Expert: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure Charter Member
    Microsoft® Certified Solutions Expert: Messaging
Microsoft® Certified Technology Specialist: Administering and Deploying System Center 2012 Configuration Manager
Microsoft® Certified Solutions Expert: Server Infrastructure
Microsoft® Certified Solutions Associate: Windows Server 2012

Looking at the available certs now it seems the Azure role based ones are the way forward:

    Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate

Does anyone know when the Windows 2012 MCSE will be retired ?

If you are talking about the cert for Windows Server 2012, it will retired when Server 2012 goes out of support.  Which is October 2023.

Ok then that being the case for me the Azure role based exams would be more worthwhile right now, two exams to become an Azure architect then do the upgrade for server 2019 at a later date.

Carry on and finish your certification path on Server 2012. The skill you will learn will be transferable to any Microsoft OS and technology. Good Luck with your studies.
