Happy New Year TE! it's almost 2019 (where did 2018 go...)

2018 was a busy year for me, and I managed to read few non-IT books, this was by far my most favourite book:
Maximum Achievement Strategies and Skills that Will Unlock Your Hidden Powers to Succeed by Tracy Brian

It was an overall excellent read, and dare I say, It's been a life changing book for me!

What's been your favourite book in 2018?

I'm a very average writer @Meggo I'll take a look at that book.

@Meggo is the writing book focused on business writing or just general writing? I need to work on my business writing skills. I'm learning little bit of business writing in the MBA but I there's no dedicated course to teach it!

Prisoners of Geography - Tim Marshall

Great book that talks about the complexities of the world and how physical geography and history still impacts us today, no matter how far technology has come in some places.

Does a CISSP prep guide count? That's all I had time to read...

Dang it!  I shouldn't have looked up the Brian Tracy book.  Now I have added several more books to my Kindle account.  Not to mention, I am currently studying for ITIL 4 Foundation and CISSP exams.  Not enough time!

Meggo, So I bought the book (Writing Without Bullshit by Josh Bernoff) as you recommended but haven't read it yet.  I find the books of Angela Maniak really helpful for report writing.  Especially, the book "Writing High-Impact Reports".  I also have her book on "Report Writing Internal Auditors".  Anyways, Humble Bundle now has a collection for Write Like a Writer.  It looks interesting but I wonder if anyone here bought the collection.  If you can share your feedback, it will be most appreciated.

@UnixGuy I'm so glad you liked it! It's still one of my favorites. I just finished this one over the weekend: https://www.amazon.com/Nine-Lies-about-Work-Freethinking-ebook/dp/B07C3ZT28C

If you're into leadership books, I think it's definitely worth reading. It's radically different than any other leadership book I've read, and co-authored by Cisco's Leadership and Team Intel leader. Ashley Goodall.

Read two awesome books recently. I read in the train and in public transport as my time is all devoted to the MBA on top of full times work!

The first one I picked at an airport, fantastic insights into habits, what makes successful habits, how habits work, how to change them, organisational habits. Excellent read and I got a lot out of it.

The second book is called Range by David Epstein (the Author of the Sports Gene / another fantastic book).

This book digs deep into the popular idea of hyper specialisation, early starts and the famous 10,000 hours rule. The book goes into research, historical examples, popular examples (Tiger woods, Nadal ..and heaps more). He argues that a diverse background and a 'late' start is an advantage in many fields. I thought this applies well to corporate world (and IT work).

    Highly recommended!

I like Miura Ziyuan, her writing is very natural, like a real story. My two favorite books are The Great Passage, Run with the Wind.

This is probably one of the best books I've read in 2019. If you're even remotely involved in product dev, I recommend you check it out! https://www.amazon.com/INSPIRED-Create-Tech-Products-Customers/dp/1119387507/
