Starting AWS learning with the goal of cloud security

My company uses Azure now, but is also looking to add some AWS. I'm not on either of those teams, I'm in security, but I'd like to learn the security side starting with AWS. Should I start with the cloud practitioner cert or skip that and work towards the associate tier?

@JDMurray Thanks for the advice. I will look into the AWS Security Cert towards the end of the year or early next year.

I found this in doing the Azure AZ-900, I realize it's the baseline entry one, but even then there is so much on billing. We run Azure at work and years ago one of the devs spun up something for test, they didn't have any kind of controls or limits. Ran up about 80K in a month himself, Oops!

Slightly late to the party, I started with the AWS architect associate - solid across the whole spectrum. I did the CCSK and CCSP afterwards as the stuff I did in the architect associate helped reinforce some of the material and general security controls you look for in cloud. Afterwards, I did the Security Specialty training - not the exam, only because work is so varied AWS is just one aspect. Doing more in Azure now. I reckon once SANS 545 comes out with an exam, it will be worth it. 540 good too with AWS and automation of cloud workloads (but after you have a solid understanding).

Sorry to jump in here but I have been reading this thread for a little bit now and want to keep it on my radar since I have a similar goal or interest in the cloud.

@JDMurray you say that it is not a big deal to keep the certifications active but do you suggest to keep climbing up higher and higher in the certification ladder?
