Upcoming beta for Project+ 005

Project+ will have a beta phase starting in January of 2022 -> https://www.comptia.org/blog/comptia-project-004-vs-005

That'll give you the option of taking the CompTIA Project+ exam very cheaply.

It has the usual downsides of the beta: no official study materials and you'll need to wait a few months for your results.

We can now change the title of this thread to 'active beta'. :)

I just took the CompTIA Project+ PK1-005 beta exam this morning.

    Copied from my blog:
As has become tradition, I pludged the exam: i.e. I went in with zero preparation, only browsing through the exam objectives document

My impressions of Project+ PK1-005 (to become PK0-005):
    • The curriculum is pretty wide, covering a number of different project management methods.
    • If anything, the focus on traditional project management feels a bit heavy compared to agile / scrum and their ilk. I guess that makes sense though, what with the target market for CompTIA still being American Enterprise, Government and Military.
    • The questions on the exam are as good as I'm used to from CompTIA: they do not want simple regurgitation of facts, they're testing for understanding of the concepts.
Overall, I'm feeling pretty good about this update to Project+.

Will it be a valuable certificate for your resumé? Maybe not, with bigger brand names having more recognized project management certs. But will it rank up there with something like PSM-I or PSPO-I? Or something like PRINCE2 fundamentals? Yeah, probably.

Finally, do I think I passed? I expect I didn't: my experience and knowledge of formal project management, especially things like PRINCE2, is very meager.

Are you referring to the questions about IT security? Or the ones about knowledge management solutions? Because honestly I'm actually happy those are on the objectives.

Or did you actually get questions that were not on the objectives?! That would be very odd.

IT security - acceptable as it's CompTIA, but there were some basic cloud which I cannot see related to subject

Ahh yeah, I get that... On the one hand I kind of understand why someone would want a project manager to understand service forms... but I also understand why others would stay that's too far out of scope.

I assume Project+ is specifically for IT Project Management, so they would need to slip in some subject matter that an ITPM would encounter. The PM certs for building contractors do have scenarios that include rebar, trucks, and cement. :)

If Project+ 005 no longer is available via the PearsonVue catalogue, that means the open beta has passed. Then yes, you missed it.

So, just to double-check: where did you try to register for the exam? Via PearsonVue directly? That's the only place where the beta exams can be purchased.

    I went to

    that redirects me to
    https://pearsonvue.com/testtaker/registration/SelectExamOptionsPage/COMPTIA

I complete the info and get

Right, that is very odd. That's a beta exam, but at full price? That should not even be possible. I can ask around on the CIN forums if they've ever seen something like this before. It really shouldn't happen.

Thank you but it won't be necessary as I received a confirmation from Comptia about this error
We have confirmed that there is an error in the Beta pricing, and we are working to resolve ASAP as the Beta closing date is soon approaching.
As such, I've escalated your inquiry to a customer service specialist. Please allow 1-2 business days for a response (usually sooner), and thanks in advance for your patience.
    Wait and see...

Thanks again for your answers and help

I signed up for the beta exam at the last minute.  I only have the basics of project management so confidence to pass is not high.  However, I have been interested in this cert and for $50, why not get a book and cram for a few days.  I will let the board know how it goes.  I test  on Tuesday.

743 on my part. Definitely not my best score, but a pass is a pass.

It was a decent exam, nothing exceptional as far as I recall.

In my case it was 740 (passing score was: 710) - so pass with a decent margin.
The exam was quite OK, nothing exceptional - fully agree to that.
