Downloaded zip files "blocked" when trying to extr

I've got an issue in XP with file blocking.

I've downloaded the videos from the CCNA Prep Center and they come in Zip files. When I try to extract them or access them by double clicking I get an error message saying the files are blocked.

I searched the web and found the apparent fix

- right click file
- properties
- unblock

but even though it is unblocked this way I still get the same error when I try to right click the file then extract all

I thought about maybe trying to mess aabout with this in Safe Mode but I think I've screwed something up on my disk by partitioning my driver for a Dual Boot linux system. Machine just hangs on the Safe Mode driver "gobbledygook screen.

Anyone had the file blocking issue before in XP?

Check your .zip file settings in the Control Panel under "Folder Options ----> File Types"

It all looks fine in there and setup the same as my work laptop, but what am I checking for?

"Windows has blocked access to these files to help protect your computer"

This is with doing right click - extract all

There is a link to Windows Help on "How do I unblock these files" but it just suggests the first fix I tried.......File properties - Unblock

Windows firewall is disabled as I use Norton.

You don't have Windows Defender installed do you?

Yes my account has administrator rights

Don't have windows defender installed.

Would running a 3rd party zip program make any difference? Thought I'd ask before I install one
