installing vista need help

ok I built my own computer and I was having problems with it staying on but now that is fixed. Now how do I install vista on a brand new never formatted hard drive? I change my settings to boot from cd rom but cant get to boot menu. Any idea's. Thanks for all the help guys.

Is the drive a CD drive or DVD drive, and is the disc a CD or a DVD? Is it a burned copy of Vista or one you bought from a store?

Vista won't fit on a CD, it has to be a DVD.

3 cd disc sets exist for vista but I'm not sure if you can get that in a retail package or not.
