So OK boys (girls?) time to get the new Juniper forum started, we all are pretty excited about it, let's try and give it 110%! icon_lol.gif
Are you going (thinking of pursuing?) for your JNCIA and further? Tell us what resources, books, tools you're using?

    Nice, very, nice...

    Get 'em while they're.... free??

Yep, Sybex JNCIA & JNCIS books here... free, all legally free:

I posted a lot of information to your question in the first topic/post....

(TBH, I'm almost surprised there's more than one person going
    for anything Juniper...) icon_eek.gif

Tell me though more about the Olive... I have the setup instructions, btw
IOW, where can I obtain one...

Well, it took me some research and extra hardware (NICs you can get them off ebay for pennies practically)
i usually idle in #juniper on freenode.org and asked around some guys there have Olive running in FreeBSD 4.4, i tried 4.9 and it seemed to do the trick, i might also upgrade the machine because i want also to run Dynamips/Dynagen on it, so i might build a whole new machine with Core Duo and 2/3Gbs of RAM.
Not to run out of RAM with Dynamips ;)
Overall it's not too hard to put Olive on, just follow the instructions and you'll be fine :)

Thanks very much for the PDF links! I've got the JunOS cookbook as well, and it's a fantastic book for learning JunOS and a basic understanding of the Juniper router environment.

I dunno if my firm wants to send me on juniper courses in the future, ive been doing some basic netscreen 5gt firewall configuration recently. No router JunOS stuff yet, just basic screen OS with the console cable and teraterm running for good practice :p

So maybe this forum might come in handy...cheers.

So the free Sybex JNCIA is enough to pass the JNCIA??

I'm thinking about going after the JNCIA.... also the JUNOS OS on a J2300 is the same OS on the M-Series?

    thanks

Yes. The Sybex JNCIA book is enough to pass the JNCIA-M. That
book covers a whole lot of info though. icon_wink.gif

    I've never used a J-series, but from what I understand, you'd
be OK with that or an Olive.

While Olive's may be fun to build, you don't get a variety of interfaces. The J2300's are really not that expensive in the grand scheme of things. You occasionally find them on Ebay. And if you find a Juniper reseller, or talk nicely to the Juniper sales folks, there are often some not-for-resale deals that can be found in order to make things easier.

Like Cisco's certification empire, the goal is to get more people knowledgeable and liking the product. There are more certifications coming in the "ER" (Enterprise Routing) space if they have not yet been announced. Stay tuned.
