2 nics for failover/load balancing

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but
I would like to take 2 nics connected to my router
and spread the load among them and/or use them
for redundancy. All I can find in Technet is how to
set up load balancing clusters which require multiple
computers. Can't this be achieved w/ 2 nics in one
machine? Can it be done natively or w/ 3rd party
software?

we tried that at work, but when one of the connections was lost we had a problem with DNS. Looking back now we could have refreshed the dns on the client but that would create more work for you."Our arrows will blot out the sun."

The short answer, yes it can be done natively (sort of).
I can't remember exact steps, but one must install a protocol or service (I don't remember which), and tell the two nics to use the protocol/service, then you give it one IP address so DNS will not be a problem!!
I did this once a ways back, so its a bit foggy.. sorry! -

Would this be to achieve the same thing as I have done by connecting my server to my cisco switch and using 2 compaq nics with the HP teaming software?
I have 2 x 100mb links working as 1x 200mb link and if 1 goes down the other continues. They have 1 IP address & mac address assigned to them both.
Are you connecting to a router to have 2 seperate subnets?
