Weird Observation Please Read

Well hello to my forum friends,
I made a weird observation on Friday before taking my security exam. To me it seems that there is 2 different exams when signing up for this exam a SYo-101 and a Sy1-101.
What's the difference ?
Well after studying my ass off for 3 weeks Iv'e been looking at alot of material from SY1-101 the books are also sold with that number. I took my exam on Friday and failed it by 5 points after being pissed at myself I noticed on the printed report it stated SY0-101 so why did I study material for SY1-101? I called promteric up and they only stated one xam for security Plus. I proceeded to ask for Comptia's number to get to the bottom of this issue. The person on the phone swore to me that the exam hasnt changed since 2003 so my question to her is why is there two different versions of study material? Why are the books we are buying state SY1-101? I will be the first to say that the material is very very different from SY0-101 the reason why I didnt fail as bad because of my experience and reading books otherwise it would of been very very painful experience. The questions were so different then what I studied in the SY1-101 books.....

What book did you use? What was the ISBN number?

I wonder if SY1-101 was the beta number for the exam.

I wish I knew, but my thinkingbehind this is if that's the case then why sell books to reflect that number. Very weird and I was very surprised when that test started to see information on it that I did not cover. Usually when I take exams and I study I read alot and then use resources ..I never had this happen to me.

I know when I took my network + alomost 8 months ago I took the new version of it and I had a choice to take that when I signed up for the exam. Are they thinking the same with this exam i have no idea.....

Never heard of it as anything but SY0-101

A google search for both test numbers turned up hits to a PDF study guide that had SY0-101 as a watermark/header on every page while the text referenced SY1-101. I can only guess that there were minor changes to the exam objectives, since a check on CompTIA's site for exam resourses (books - self study) showed several books listed as "2002 objectives", while as far as I am aware the current exams are based on "2003 objectives". Your phone call seemed to verify this as well.

My gut feeling is that they just never updated the printouts to reflect the change, and I highly doubt you took a test based on the 2002 version unless the test center you used is way out of date.

Either way, hang in there, it's not an easy test, but you were close so I'm sure you'll get it next time. Don't let this frazzle you, focus on your next attempt.

The money, although hard to let go, is not worth the effort or stress to worry about IMO. I spend that much eating out every month anyway....

I too have noticed the discrepancy in material. Two of the resources I am using refer to SYO-101 (Testout and Microsoft Press), but the 'Security+ for Dummies' book I have references SY1-101. It's too early in my studies to tell a difference in material, but one thing I noticed off the bat is that in the dummies book it says the test will be 125 questions with 75% (94 correct) needed to pass. I'm sure it couldn't hurt to read the book, but considering the initial misinformation, I'll probably end up ditching the resource (good old ebay) and finding something else.

I called CompTIA, who informed me that the current exam is SYO-101, but they didn't know if it was previously SY1-101. It is 100 questions (which we all know) with a passing score of 760 out of 900. However, not all questions are weighed equally and so it shouldn't be translated into a simple percentage needed to pass.

Hope this helps - anyone studying for the exam may want to avoid the Dummies book with ISBN: 076452576-X

Well the reason you saw questions that were not related with your study material is because they throw in some non graded questions.

Myself as well as several others ive seen posted had an off the wall sql question.
