I haven't seen many picture threads... So I thought I would start by showing my ugly room in my apartment. It is a whole lot cleaner now but this gives you an idea.

Do you guys build your own racks? I need to build two mobile 19" racks to move my equipment out into my garage. From your pictures, it looks like I only need a set of rails, some lumber, and circular saw and I can make them myself.

Sure you can build them yourself!! :)

A router might be helpful but certainly it can be done with wood, some screws, saw, casters or maybe just get a saw trolley that locks in place with footpetals and moves when you unlock it.

You could even get fancy and get yourself a plexiglass door front or a dark mesh screen for airflow to hide everything inside.

    'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.... weird?

    Thats what I did!

I found a set of 4 rails at work and then used some plywood I had kicking around to make up a cabinet. Before I built a full cabinet a had a pair of cheap rails I bought on ebay for £4 attached to some wooden shelving.

Two PC's one of top of the other. I just link them with a cross-over and I use a KVM to switch between them. Not very exciting. icon_confused.gif

emsrescue: that is a nice set up, I'm jealous.

My lab is basically computers a spread around my spare room on the floor, connected to a KVM switch, and 1 mointor, I will love to have a more elaborate display, but without any $$$ I basically have to use what I can find.

I am lucky in that I work for a telecom's company so have managed to procure some routers, PC's and rack rails from work. That plus spending far too much on ebay icon_confused.gif

The sad thing is that I have twice as much gear stacked up out of camera shot icon_eek.gif

The plan is to have a couple of 2003 servers and a couple of xp desktops for MCSA exams. My cisco lab 3x 2500's, 1x 4000 router and 2x 2900's and then my freenas box, a headless fedora box to go with my kubuntu based iMac for my Linux+ studies and maybe another linux box or cisco router for my broadband connection.

    Then........

An industrial aircon plant and a huge electricity bill :D

    starts here:
    c00507289.gif
HP Dv5135 notebook. theres also a crappy old whitebox but i won't be using that much.

    Cisco equipment:
    1 2520
    2 2501s
    2 2404s
    1 2514
    1 1912 switch

Future additions: 2950 switches, 2600 series router, WAP.

Will be rack mounted on a 14u simular to the one in the pic above.. i've ordered the rails and will finish it later.

This summer i plan to add a server in as well. the 2950's and 2600 will be ordered in april.

I've also got quite a few DTE-DCE cables, tranceivers, console cables, 300ft of cat 5e with a crimper and some plugs, some other misc stuff. can't wait to get it all together!
Fantastic. The project manager is inspired.
