Adobe 8

A couple clients of mine are creating reports that are .PDF files. They are being created from a specific website. When trying to open the pdf files, this error pops up "Cannot extract the embedded font 'F0'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." I click OK and the file opens but with no data. This same pdf will open just fine with Adobe 6. The creators of the website say it's Adobe 8 and to use an older version.

I seen a few websites talking about this when I searched Google, but none of them really had a solution. A couple had suggestions which didn't work. Anyone seen this before?

BTW, they're running XP SP2.

Do you know what program is being used to create the PDF files? There are many "PDF Printing" applications that do not produce 100% compliant PDF files, and maybe the PDF creation program is not exporting its font information correctly.

I'm using Adobe Reader 8 on several WinXP and one Vista computers and have had no problems opening even very old PDF files--even ones that AR6 wouldn't open. If it is a bug in AR8 it's likely that Adobe already knows about it, but I think it's more likely the PDF creation program needs its font export configuration tweaked.

I checked Adobe's site and couldn't find anything regarding my issue. Although, I did find a couple other forums with the same problem but no solution.

I'm also running a few machines with XP SP2 and Adobe 8 and haven't had a problem with them...yet. I did try to open the PDF on an identical machine and I got the same error message. I thought it might be something with permissions or the settings but haven't found anything.

Yeah, I think the fix will be changing the configuration of the program that creates the PDF file rather than a patch to AR8.

The weird thing is that the file opens fine with an older version of Adobe(5 & 6).

AR8 is more strict than AR 5, 6 and maybe 7 too.

Just for grins, download and install Foxit and see if it has a problem with the same PDF files.
