What are the most likely SIMS on the CCNA exam ??

Hey guys, I was wondering from your experience, what is the most likely number of sims on the CCNA exam, and which types?

I know access lists is very likely.
I think i'll do ok at the mulitple choice questions, it's the sims im stressin 'bout.

How many marks do the sims contribute to the final grade ?

I dont understand what percentage I need to get to pass, im guessing it's around 70%??

Finally, on the sims, do you get given a topology and have to make network from scratch, selecting equipment, applying ip's/subnets, and then configuring routing protocols & access lists/vpns etc..

OR is it all set up for you, and you just need to configure the routers for each scenario?

Any answers that detail all of these questions would be much appreciated!

Anything implement, configure, manage.... etc on the exam blueprint is fair game for a SIM.

Any other answers by someone who has taken the exam would be a violation of the Cisco Non-Disclosure Agreement people accept when they take the Cisco exams. Number and types of questions are explicitly stated in the NDA as verboten topics of discussion outside of the exam (and you can't talk about the exam with your neighbor during the exam either

).

I think this is the Cisco Career Certifications and Confidentiality Agreement you will "accept" before the exam -- its one of the "requirements" in the Cisco Certification Tracking System.

And here is the Cisco Certification Resoures link which may have the answers to questions you haven't asked yet (links to the CCNA and CCNP Prep Centers are there too).

cool I understand mate. I'll never be smart or motivated enough to be able to get all those cisco certs that you have, lol. Could you break the violation cisco and at least tell me what the pass rate is as it would help me, like if I get 1 sim and screw it up, then would that mean, ive pratically screwed up the whole exam? I will check out the demo - thanks

The only thing Cisco has "admitted" about the exam is that you do get "partial credit" on the SIMs... and the SIMs are worth more points than the other questions.

Some people claimed they missed "both SIMs" but got all the other questions correct and still passed....??? But if they couldn't do the "simple SIMs" why would we believe they knew everything else?

I think the CCNA Forum FAQ talks about the SIMs after the sections with the links.

Cisco also doesn't talk about the passing rates. 100% of the people who made it through my CCNA Cisco Network Academy Class passed the CCNA on their first try 3 days after finishing up the Semester 4 final. Other people claim its a 50% pass rate based on "what they heard."

Instead of trying to focus on what sims may or may not be on the test, just learn everything that might be on there. You won't have any problems this way. The whole point of the certification is to show that you know what the certification represents.

I went through the calculations once before using the generally assumed passing score (which we supposedly can't talk about because of the NDA) and the fact you get 300 points just for showing up for the exam.... but it worked out to about 79+%

So you need to be at least a "B student" to pass the CCNA exam.

But without know the actual weight of the SIM in your score... knowing the % doesn't really help as much as just knowing everything on the 640-801 CCNA exam blueprint

Great Info! Thanks! Just registered on the site. Planning on taking the exam in a couple of weeks, hopefully by mid-May. Going thru a "Boot Camp" now, and so far have knocked out 4 weekly exams with 900 + scores. In week 5 and doing ACL's and such, next is ISDN and NAT. I've been in IT for some time now, mostly on the desktop side of things, doing "break/fix" work, both hardware and software. I really want to get out of that and into a more "Administrative" position though, getting burned out dealing with end-users on a day to day basis, if you know what I mean. Glad I found this site, the one I used to go to, ExamNotes, seems to have fallen into disrepair over the last year or so. Hope to be on here and get to know everyone. Thanks again and keep the good info coming!

i am registered for this exam on friday and my basic strat is going to be know all the router protocols, and switching possible issues.

I'll first look to see if the subnetting/ip addressing is right, if that's right, I'll move on to the specific protocol in question, like if its igrp, look to see if the AS number is correct, the hello times etc, I'll run a show running config on both and see what's different, maybe one is rip 1 and the other is rip 2......look to see if areas are correct, or the interfaces are up/up....

just know ur stuff that's all i can say, its not a memorization game, gotta know the concepts.

I have to agree, you really have to know the concepts. This not only goes for Cisco, but for anything in IT. I like your approach, look at the issue from the top down, look for the mistakes/differences. Good luck on the exam! Taking mine in a couple of weeks, cramming like crazy and doing labs.

I hvae fialed the test twice and I know it is because of the sims.....I had 3 and can remember each one specificly because they were the exact same on both tests......I know now what to expect going into my third time this week and know exactly what i need to study to pass this sucker.......I went from a 643 to a 758 in a week...so the last 2 weeks of studing should put me over the top!!!!!
