Best place to get networking cables in a hurry?

I need to finish a lab at school pretty quickly, so I don't have time to order any cables online. Can someone recommend the best place to get networking cables without paying a fortune? I.e. consoles, straight-throughs, etc.

i've never seen a rollover in a store, but then i ordered 300 ft of cat5e and called it a day. be prepared to pay $14 for a 20 ft straight thru and good luck finding a crossover :-p (retail store prices, not sure on mom & pop computer stores though)

oh, and you don't have access to cables at school? hell, the first night in my CCNA 1 class we had to make our own cables (crossover and rollover, i believe)

Radio shack sells a crossover, but not a rollover.

Just buy a spool of cables, RJ-45 connecters and a crimper and you can make all the Straight through and cross over cables you want.

Best Buy should have such things (though I doubt a rollover)--be ready to pay about 500-600% markup. I actually just bought 100 ft of cat5e I saw at a hardware store for $30. I was like "hardware stores have cat5e cable?" Anyone in networking should have their own crimper, plugs, and cat5e wire, IMO.

Really making your own is the way to go. Unless you don't think you'll ever buy cables ever again after these few.

You can also buy the RJ-45 -> Serial converter and make your own rollover cable:

Do you remember how to make rollover cables from Cisco Networking Academy Semester 1?

Yes, but I don't have access to the materials anymore. I guess I'll have to check with my instructor, but I really need this work done before then. I guess I don't have any choice *sigh*.

Firstly, as a graduate of Semester 1 and Semester 2, you should have access to the Cisco Networking Academy Program curriculum materials at http://cisco.netacad.net . Use your login from classes.

Secondly, do you remember how to make a 568b.2 straight through cable?

I don't have the physical materials - no cabling, connectors, crimping tools, etc., needed to make the necessary cables.

Just go to radio shack and buy some crimps and a spool of cat5 if you need it in a hurry.
