Failed CCNA

Score was 847

I feel hopeless and angry at myself, this was the second attempt. Well I'm going for round 3 but before that I'm taking the Network+ exam first because this CCNA is consuming me and too much of my time already.

I'm pretty sure I can pass the Net+ easily, if not I'll probably shoot myself in the head.

Man, I'm sorry. I feel your pain, though. I flunked the A+ recently and didn't have the time to retake it before I began CCNA. I want to take the INTRO but I don't think I'm ready, and I'm gun-shy now of taking a test and failing again. Just study a pinch more and you should get it.

Hang in there...as one who lost pride after taking the Sec+ three times prior to a pass, my understanding is this test is no cake walk. With just a miss of 2 points- you know you will own it on retake.

Thats a solid score...what you need is good cramming skills.
The ability to cram tables of information 10 minutes before the test cannot be understated.

The CCNA prep center is the greatest free tool on the net for CCNA preparation...

What were exactly the percentages of your score report?
The only thing you have to do is improving your knowledge on the topics you are below the 90%.

Also, perhaps you should take a look at most of the show commands, you must be able to understand them completly. You dont have to memorize the outputs, you only should know what is depicted in each show command, you know like when issuing "show interface", can you understand all of its output, even the stats at the bottom?

Thanks for the kind words and encouragements.

I'm going after the Network+ and A+ (2003 ver) because I need some certifications to get an entry level job, I already have a bachelor in IT-Networking but no work experience. I'm taking the Net+ tomorrow and I can get A+ in 1 to 2 week, it's not that hard at all for me. I've been meaning to get those cert but the CCNA has gotten in the way and after failing for the second time I decided to get other certification and find a job before I tackle CCNA again.

The following was my CCNA report:

Planning and Designing 91%
Implementation and Operation 83%
Troubleshooting 61%
Technology 84%

The Net+ seems easy to me, I mean if I can do and get close to CCNA, I will probably pass Net+, right? LOL

The Net+ might seem easier but I wouldn't underestimate the difficulty. CCNA is Cisco-centric and the NET+ might test on more standards, which could be just as difficult.

Troubleshooting...not sure where to start.
That usually mean you need "deeper" knowledge, because in order to troubleshoot you must understand all the other areas first.

I would the read book again and do all the practice questions/scenarios.

I know the feeling man. I took it 3 times. First time I got an 834 on it and was so mad... second time I got an 829 and couldn't believe it. I swear they had asked me some questions that were completely stupid and I mustve choked!. You really need to just CRAM right before. I cramed for about 4-5 hours before I took it the 3rd time and got a 961.

Don't feel too bad, you're very close. As it happens, I got the same score when I sat the exam, and I know what a punch in the gut it is to see that close of a score. Makes you kick yourself about "that one question I didn't read well enough", or "that one question I realized the answer to after I'd hit the 'Next' button". The only advice I can give is to do the same thing I'm doing: I'm reading through the Sybex book again, I'm plugging away at the CCNA FlashCards, and I'm doing lots and lots of labs to help me get through some of the stuff I saw on the exam, along with some other common things, like routing protocol configuration, VLAN configuration, that sort of thing. You're close, just a little more studying should get you to the 900-range the next time you take the exam.

Hands on practice usually helps with troubleshooting -- make sure you know the show and debug commands to use (and their output) to troubleshoot the different OSI layers.

You're close enough, if you don't let it bother you, to use the 5 days to have to wait before retesting, to study and then smack the exam down.

And make sure you study enough to really kick the Network+ around. I failed the IDS exam by 5 points -- and that really bothered me (if I had just used that 15 minutes in the parking lot to review my notes......). It wasn't until I stomped the CSVPN exam into the ground a few weeks later, that I was able to face the replacement IPS exam (which I stomped).

well, u should ve taken the A+ and net+ before ccna, dats a alot of stuff cover on the ccna but u would had more knoledge and expecience to study for the ccna after comptia...i would think ,but if u r so close just go at it, pass it review all ur weak areas im sure ull pass it next time

Don't waste your time with the network + cert. You're already way too close to the CCNA to branch off and go learn a whole slew of new things you'll never use. Just cram on what gives you trouble and keep at it.

Passed the Net+ with 673 today, I didn't even study for this test, all my knowledge was from CCNA.

The Pearson Vue administrator where I take my exams told me that the average CCNA candidate will fail twice before passing on the third attempt and that the CCNP is much easier compare to the CCNA from what others have told him.

Off to a 1 week study for my A+ and I'll be back to bishslap the CCNA and get my certification on that empty wall of mine. I will most certainly devour the A+ IMO.

847 proves that most likely you are not having trouble with the questions themselves. Just need to prepare yourself psychologically and don't stress about time. Try to enjoy the exam, if nothing else does it. Don't re-take until you know what needs to improve. However, I must say that 847 is just plain bad luck. Don't feel bad about it. It happens.

Don't feel bad at all man. I've failed it 3 times, by about that margin each time. I know the sims are what trip me up. You'l l ace it on your next try.
