Wireless Security - WPA

Hi Guys,

When your using WPA and you specify a passphrase between 8 and 63 characters is that what is used for your key? I understand it is used by devices to autheticate themselves and gain access to the network but im not sure if that same passphrase is used in the encryption process?

Any help and the simpler the better would be great
