chap and padded cell???????????????????

Ok,

t minus 24 hours and counting till blast off..

question 1:

does chap use 4 or 7 steps??? Most of my materials say 7 steps. But a couple say chap is 4 steps... WHich should I memorize for the test.

question 2:

One of my references threw: Padded cell at me when I was expecting to see honey pot as an answer.... I have never heard or seen padded cell in anything else (padded cell as something like a honey pot)... Anyone run into this?

This is from RFC 1994:

Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol

The Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) is used to
periodically verify the identity of the peer using a 3-way handshake.
This is done upon initial link establishment, and MAY be repeated
anytime after the link has been established.

1. After the Link Establishment phase is complete, the
authenticator sends a "challenge" message to the peer.

2. The peer responds with a value calculated using a "one-way
hash" function.

3. The authenticator checks the response against its own
calculation of the expected hash value. If the values match,
the authentication is acknowledged; otherwise the connection
SHOULD be terminated.

4. At random intervals, the authenticator sends a new challenge to
the peer, and repeats steps 1 to 3.

A honeypot is a machine setup to lure attackers to try and compromise in order to learn from their attack.

A Padded cell is generally a more restricted user environment which helps prevent someone from hurting themselves or others
