SSCP/CISSP

Ok here is my situation...

I have about 1 and 1/2 years with a title that is just security. However I have done support, administration, networking and developement for many companies (inlcuding a large credit card holdings firm, a correctional facility, and an ISP). For all of these companies I had to employ countless security practices. Security has been on my resume for years as part of my job description and daily duties, but not always my title (until now).

I have just finished the sec +, and I want to take it up a notch... It would be a bummer to accomplish the SSCP if it is ok for me to go for the CISSP.

I have the work experience, and I have an associates degree.

Advice please? If I can only do the SSCP thats fine I will do what I have do to do. It is a respectable cert and will not be unhappy with it. However I know that the SSCP and CISSP are both very demanding and I would like to jump straight into the CISSP. I am certain I will have to study for at least 3 to 6 months (I don't want to kill myself to accomplish this).

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

You should be fine as long as you can document how each of your experiences in your past jobs relate to security. I just put like examples (Telecom, Cryptography) or (Physical Security) beside each of my duties in the other jobs. My endorsement was processed without a problem and my other job titles were like Network Engineer, Communications Engineer, etc. You don't have to be a "Security Analyst" in all your other jobs. If you take it before Oct.1, 2007, you need 4 years total experience with security - 1 for your Sec+, so that's 3. If you wait, you'll need an extra year. As long as you can document the required experience like above, you shouldn't have a problem.

But there is no way I could be ready for that by oct 1st... That is just a little over 2 months to prepare... I would need at lest 3 to 6....

SO they are doing away with credit for the security plus huh? That is to bad.

No they are not doing away with the credit I don't think they are just adding a year more experience needed. From 4 to 5.

If you pass the CISSP exam, but don't yet have the require experience, you will be awarded the Associate of the (ISC)2 designation. This is what I will probably do after I pass the SSCP.

JD is absolutely correct. Just make sure you have solid documentation of your experience. You should be fine. Don't forget about the endorsement policy.
