Questions on Windows Vista 70-620, 70-622

bearfanbearfan Member Posts: 70 ■■□□□□□□□□
Is passing the 70-620, and 70-622 tests the Windows Vista version of the MCDST 70-271 and 70-272 exams?

I'm interested in all the tests mentioned, but wonder if I shouldn't just start with the new stuff since the older ones will be retired in a couple years.

Has anyone taken all these tests are all the Windows Vista tests a lot more difficult than the XP ones?

Don't think that XP will be retired in a couple of years.icon_eek.gif

And next the simple way to follow is to pass the 70-271 and 70-272 (easier and both are making you MCDST) and next to pass the upgrade exam 70-621 (this only one make you MCITP ETS).

To become MCITP Enterprise Support wich is on Vista what the MCDST is for XP you can follow two ways:

    - 70-620 + 70-622 = MCITP ETS (so 2 exam to be MCITP)

    or

-MCDST + 70-621 = MCITP ETS (so 3 exam: two to become MCDST and one to Upgrade and you earn to credential!!)

In conclusion in one way, you have to take 4 exams: 70-271,70-272,70-620,70-622 to earn two credentials and the other and shortest way can make you earn the same credential by passin only 3 exam: 70-271,70-272,70-621 icon_cool.gif

    Thanks for this advice.

Also, I went to Self-Test Software to see how much their practice tests cost. They have a buy one get one free promotion until Monday, July 30th. Buy any one test, get any other free.

I thought I'd post this in case anyone else is going to be buying practice tests in the next couple months.

I may get both 70-271 and 70-272 from them.

Now that I've passed 70-271,70-272 and 70-622 (have not received certificate).

So whats the next vista exam (70-620, 70-621, or 70-623) I should take in order to gain a certificate? icon_confused.gif:

    Hi nama ,

    I don't understand why you took the 70-622 icon_eek.gif .

You are MCDST, so if you take the 70-621 which is the reserved to the MCDST, you earn the new credential of MCITP Enterprise Support!!!
For those who don't have the MCDST credential, they have to take the 70-622 and the 70-620 to earn the same credential.
And for Information, the MCDST who take the upgrade exam 70-621 save 40% on the price exam.

    Source Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/vistaupgrade/default.mspx

Save 40 percent on your upgrade exam!

If you are an MCDST, you only need to take one exam (70-621) to earn the MCTS and MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician certifications for Windows Vista. As a thank you to those who are certified on Windows XP, we are offering a 40 percent savings on exam 70-621. Use promotion code DCAUPG when you register at Pearson VUE or Prometric. Offer expires on September 30, 2007, and cannot be combined with other offers.

    To resume:

    70-620 = MCTS Configuration
70-620 + 70-622 = and you become MCITP ETS + MCST Vista configuration
MCDST + 70-621= and you become MCITP ETS + MCST Vista configuration

Now, since you have the 70-622 and the MCDST, you can take either the 70-621 or the 70-620 to become MCITP, but only the 70-621 will make you save 40% . icon_cool.gif

    hi kyrikaze,

1st of all, thanks for the detail explanation. :)

So for my case, will I receive any MS certificate since I have already passed 70-622 exam? icon_redface.gif

    Hi,

Yes you'll received a MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) Certificate.
But you have to ask for you new Welcome kit directly in your MCP profile.

    https://mcp.microsoft.com/mcp/Default.mspx

In Program Benefits --> Welcome Kits and Certificates, and look below for asking your new Certificate.

    erm but it says:

"According to our records, you are not eligible to order a welcome kit or certificate at this time. This may be because you have already placed your order or because you have not yet earned a new certification. Please note that it may take up to ten business days for your records to transfer from your test center to our database. If you would like to update an order that you have already placed, check the status of your shipment, or feel that our records are incorrect, please contact your Regional Service Center for assistance."

Perhaps I need to wait icon_confused.gif

MS says, maybe have to wait, or simply call them to know about the issue icon_rolleyes.gif

Transcript updates and welcome kits delayed
If you placed an order for an MCTS or MCITP welcome kit and have not received it within the standard turnaround time, or if you find the certification you recently earned (MCTS, MCITP, MCSA, or MCSE) is not rendering correctly in your official Microsoft transcript on this site, it is likely due to a known, temporary problem in our records transfer. We are working to resolve this issue. There is no action required; we will resume shipments and provide a notice of corrected transcripts as soon as we are able. Thank you for your patience.

I have emailed MS and this was their reply:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding exam 622.

We value your time and want to provide you with excellent services.

Microsoft provides one certificate for each certification earned (MCP,
MCSA, MCSE, MCDST, MCSD, MCAD, MCDBA), rather than per exam.

If you need to research the exams you need to complete a particular
certification, you may wish to visit the Certification Planner. The
Certification Planner enables you to view certifications currently in
progress. To use the Certification Planner, please visit the MCP Member Site
at https://mcp.microsoft.com/mcp and select ?Certification Planner?
under the ?View My...? menu on the left hand side of the screen.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know. Thank
    you for contacting Microsoft.

sounds abit weird though for those in brackets. icon_confused.gif

I think, they only forget to update their automatic answer.

Have a look here (You'll have to login)

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/kits/default.mspx

You'll see that for MCTS Credential, you earn a welcome kit too.
