Comptia will be revising its Security+ exam

I got an email earlier today which seems to indicate that the Sec+ is finally going to get its much needed revamping.

Here is a portion of the email:

Dear CompTIA Security+ Professional,

It’s time for a revision of the CompTIA Security+ objectives and exam. CompTIA is seeking Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in information security, to assist in the re-development of CompTIA Security+ through participation in a Job Task Analysis (JTA). The purpose of a JTA is to identify areas of competence required for certification, and to ensure that the examination objectives are relevant to job roles and activities for the target audience: security professionals with a minimum of two years experience in Network Administration with a focus on security.

I for one am very excited about the re-development of the cert. I beleive that restructuring it and updating the material may increase its value.

For anyone working on or thinking about taking this exam it might be beneficial for you to try and get it finished within the next year. I do not have any idea on the time frame for a change on this, but im assuming it will wont be for some time.

I'm excited about it too, so I hope it won't be disappointing. It will be hard to change the reputation of Security+, which isn't bad right now, but isn't great either. Quite frankly it can only be improved, both in terms of selecting exam objectives as well as the quality of the exam itself. With some of their other certifications it seems they are trying to stay vendor-neutral by covering all popular vendors, I hope they won't do that with Security+. I.o.w. keep it conceptual rather than configuring permissions on MAC, Linux, Windows and Netware, for example.

Yes... can report the same thing! Took the exam 3 weeks ago...

Not sure if this is the place to ask but can the security "+" be used twice
1. elective on mcsa
2 elective on mcse

MCSA & MCSE (and specialisations) are considered separate certifications, so Security+ can be used as an elective for MCSA, MCSA:Security, MCSE or MCSE:Security

Theoretically, you could just get Security+ and have a credit for the MCSE and MCSA.

I guess youre right. Ive been thinking short term and just going for the MCSA. I wasnt even going to think about the MCSE until I had the MCSA under my belt.

Someone has news about Sec+ revamp?? Is it due for this year or next year?
