prevalence of knowing CatOS?

I just bought a Catalyst 5505 for layer 3 switching and the thing runs CatOS. The RSM module I also bought runs IOS however, so I'm good in that regard. I'm curious to know though, how worthwhile it is to learn CatOS. Are there many routers still in the field that run CatOS? According to various sources CatOS is still used on some flagship switching platforms (like the 6509 for example). It can't hurt me to learn CatOS but will it help me any?

You never know when you will run into CatOS so it's probably a good thing to learn\know how to work with it.

I would put it in the handy things to know list....

We have a few CatOS devices at work can be quite tricky to find what you need especially when you are so use to the IOS commands

i think that CatOs commands are more specific.

I have a coupel 6500 I run one in native and the other in hybird.

I enjoy working with the hybird.

i would say know if for real world but in testing not.. if your interested in some OC3 cards for your switch let me know

I think its good knowledge to have in the back pocket. I don't work with it daily but I do run across it every couple months.

the sh config will ultimately help point you to the commands you are looking for.

Well, I now have probably the biggest switch on the block, lol. CatOS is pretty intuitive if you're open minded about it.

Its always a pain learning something new, but in the end its always good to have a broad range of knowledge. You never know when you might need something in the future.
