Question about Dial Peers

Hey guys,

I am on my last leg of preparation for CVOICE and rereading the Cisco Press Self-Study guide.

I didn't understand this the first I went through and still don't so here goes.

What is the difference between 'incoming called-number' and 'destination-pattern' ?

Why is 'incoming called-number' recommended for inbound dial peers?

And lastly, why does it seem that in all books and CBTs I have used to study for this, only 'destination-pattern' is used?

Thanks

The incoming called-number is used on inbound dial peers to match the called numbers. Outbound dial peers use the destination address to point the dialed number to a session target.

More specifically, incomming-called-number is used to match DIDs or DNIS being sent from Telco to your gateway.

    Example:

    incomming-called-number .

the (.) signifies that all digits that are sent from Telco to your gateway should be routed to whatever you designate.

    example:

    session-target ipv4:10.10.10.20

    10.10.10.20 could be a Callmanager

    port 1/0/1 - could be a tie-line into a PBX

destination-pattern will match a defined set of digits that are routed to an IP address or port.

Let me know if this helps.
