Microsoft certs (at least so far, the MCA may be different but I havent looked) do not expire, they just become obsolete over time - so technically you keep them forever but obviously their market value decreases.
The CCNA has to be renewed within 3 years, but sitting any professional level exam renews it too. So long as you keep working on your Cisco certs you don't really need to worry.
We responded to the Year 2000 issue with "Y2K" solutions...isn't this the kind of thinking that got us into trouble in the first place?

The old gen of MS creds (MCP, MCSE, MCSA, etc) do not have an expiry date. The new gen of MS exams do: MCTS - expires at end of life cycle, MCITP - expires every 3 years and needs to be renewed. The CCNA expires every 3 years.

It doesn't matter if you're a MCSE in 2k3 and you do the Windows 2k8 certs, you do not lose your previous certs.
