35 Days and MCSE Certified

Some lady came from a company today offering training courses to our systems person for MCSE, CCNA, A+, etc. For only $10,000 they can run me through all the classes I need for my MCSE in 35 days with no guarantee I pass the certifications WOHOOO! For 9k I can take the CCNA classes. Man I laid into this lady so hard. She was in the middle of her speech and I jumped in with "So your bootcamping people right?" and she got flustered. I was like so you expect me to know how to master a server with 3 days training? For only 10k and no guarantee of passing the certs I get to memorize a bunch of crap for the test to pass and then forget it next week. No hands on labs or anything. I told her for 10k I can go to my local technical school (which I am doing) and get 3 associates degrees, A+, Network+, CCNA, CCDA, Security+, MCSE, MCSA, and pay for all the test.

It just irritates me how they come in with the speech about how in 35 days I will own the computer world for only 10k. But, as sad as I am to say it, if my company was dumb enough to pay 10k to let me take these worthless classes I would and just setup labs at work and self study after I got done. I just know if I did take em and got certified it's a paper cert and I would have to study on my own alot before I even put the certification on my resume as I know the first interview would own me.

Sorry, I had to vent, just mad that they offer this junk and ashamed that if my company would pay for it I would take it

Makes me wonder how those boot camp companies are doing in this economy?

Ugh I hear ya, bootcamps only devalue certs.. which makes it harder for us entry level folks to get a job..

I don't believe that people who take those bootcamps w/o any hands on experience can pass the tests. From what I hear, they're sort of a refresher for seasoned IT people who are looking to pass the test. I've had a couple of CTEC classes and after 5 days, it's total information overload (waste of money). In conclusion, I'd never pay for one but if I was given the opportunity to go for free... it's all good

; it's definately a new style for being a paper cert --and an expensive style it is!

Although it is tempting but I'll just stick with hitting the books and playing with the computer...and when ready, taking the exams.

I dont know about anyone else but I need to re-read then re-read again for information to really stick in my head. That is a big overload of info and I could never see myself getting much out of a class like that. But maybe theres people out there who pick up things instantly I sure I aint one of them

I hate to say it, but certification has become a fad. Part of the fault of companies deciding to require them for any consideration of the job. It's gotten to the point where alot of the entry level certs dont mean what they used to..... that's why I've decided I have to set my sights on the higher level stuff, and as far as I can, not much more prestigious than CCIE. It's become my holy grail

Don't mean to ask but when Technical school can you go to and get 3 degrees and all those certs for 10 grand?

The local technical school in my town cost about $330 per semester full time. My first degree I am working on now Network Specialist paths you through all of the courses for CCNA (done taken), Network+, Security+, Linux+, MCSA, MCSE, and wireless. I will have my Associates in Networking CCNA concentration first, for another 12 hours I will get my Associates in Networking MCSE concentration. Once I finsh all of that they also offer an Associates degree in Programming and Computer Specialist, and another in Management.
