in CCNA & CCENT
I wanted to make sure that I understand discontiguous networks, i have included a diagram of what i think it is. am i correct on this?

aside from logical idea of no need for that many host addresses between the routers, i dont see any other reason

Think of it this way, sprinkl3s. If you were to use a classful routing protocol, like RIP v1, and you wanted to send packets from 10.1.0.5 to 10.3.0.10, how would the routers know where to send it? Keep in mind, even with the /16 netmask, all three 10.x.x.x networks are still class A, and considered to be a single, large network. The 192.168.x.x network(s) between the routers breaks the direct link between the 10.x.x.x networks, making them discontiguous. Take a look at the example in this article, if you're still having trouble.
