This is my first post on the forum, but i just had to tell everyone that i passed my A+ OS today and i am well happy about it (it was my 4th attemp-call me dumb if you want). Anyways i am now A+ certified.

Congrats on pass the OS exam. I failed it a week ago...that drove me crazy. If you can remember, could you post a few of the questions that you found most difficult? And for everybody else, on my first attempt, I got a question stating, "Which file must be EXACTLY 1024 bytes?" Does any body know? In my prep materials I had a similar question stating that the MSDOS.SYS file had to be AT LEAST 1024 to keep virus scans from thinking it was a virus. I've got a bad feeling that this is a typical Comptia trick question. Thanks a million.

IT is the MSDOS.sys file has to be 1024 bytes. At leat my book says so, I think heh

Thanks. Be fore warned...and take this warning as seriously as you would the plague. If you study with measureup.com as your primary Test Prep engine, think again. Measureup.com is one of the absolutely worst test preps you can find! Use it as a secondary/backup method of test prep qustions. After using Measureup, I have been given a REALLY BAD FEELING that thousands of people have FAILED because of measureup!

If anything, their questions are way too easy, leaving you with undue confidence!

Charwell - there are a lot of questions on what requirements you need to install the different OS, also what their boot processes is. i found there there was quite a lot of questions on Windows XP so if you are not that familiar with it then you may need know.
last of all there were a number of questions on the basics of networking.

Some of thequestions that i got asked were:

What is a DHCP server used for?
What is the least amount of RAM needed to install Windows XP?
What does the file IO.sys do?

what are file systems of the different OS's and their advantages and disadvantages,
registry,
troubleshooting tools used for different problems,
advanced startup options eg. safe mode,

I am now studying for the OS exam. I have the MeasureUp software. I also think it is too easy. Is there anything better out there, that's not too expensive?

It doesn't matter how many times you took it as long as you passed and are now certified. Although I bet after the 4th time you felt certifiable.

Yeah, just about everything out there is better than measureup. Definitely try Transender, Boson, techexams, and exam essentials. My Net+ instructor from last week stated that Measureup has a better question bank for their Net+ than A+ (which might be right since Measureup's net+ question bank has 374, while the A+OS bank has only 200). Does anybody out their know of the reliability of Measureup's Net+ exam prep? I'm trying to find as much free test prep software as possible. I've already paid for classes, books, and Measureup...I'm just looking for additional resources. Studynotes.net is a great free sight for A+ and net+, but don't fill out their registration form with a telephone number you use
