Network Traffic

Hi

Can anyone reccomend a utility that shows how much traffic is going through a server.

We have 2 GIG ports on our server so i would like to know if i need to use both of them as 1 is disabled.

Just a simple graph to show percentage of use would surfice.

Task manager on 2003 and XP does this natively.

I have used Task Manager and the results contradict performance monitor, hence this post

Pretty much any network monitoring tool should be able to graph port usage. Currently I'm using SNMPc, but have used many in the past and all of them have had an option for what you are looking for.

How did you come to this conclusion "When file is being copied perfom reports the network interface as reaching its maximum"?

I'm curious about this.

On a scale of 1 to a hundred in perfmon, the network interface is on 100

It sounds like perfmon is looking at mb/sec or something (depends on the counter you're looking at, some do use percentages). If that's the case, and it's consistently on 100, that means the values it's recording are probably all just over 100. Try setting the graph to 1000 or something and trying it again.

Yes perfmon runs the Bytes total per second at like .0001 scale so you will need to set your ranges higher.
