Maybe it's because I work for a Bank, we have about 300 people in IT

-50/50 on the database teams are women.
-About 80% of IT management roles are women.
-I would say the "grunt workers" (server, node, printer, router repair and installations) are 90% men. We have a couple women down south. .
-Application support is about 60/40, women
-Vendors all seem to all be men.
    -IT security is about 50/50
-Programmers all seem to be men. I can't think of a single woman on those teams.
-Help desk about about 23-24 people there, say 9 women. But all managers there are women (3). No male managers at help desk or our testing labs.

When I worked for Geek Squad we had ONE women in the entire district who was a "tech" (although there were women working for Geek Squad) and she was good! I learned a lot from her.

Anyhow, any specific reason ya ask?
    -Daniel

We have 6 ladies, 4 of them are engineers and one of them is MCSE 2003 and pretty good with most things windows. I dont like to point out differences because I could be viewed as being sexist...........................but the girls help a lot with their organisation/tidying and labeling! :)

    These are slightly rounded approximations:

    Database: 20% Female/80% Male
    GIS: 70% Female/30% Male
    Programmers: 70% Female/30% Male
    IT Support/Security: 0% Female/100% male

Database/IT are primarily men, while our GIS Technicians/Programmers are primarily women. Overall there a lot more women working here than men.

maybe the reason why there are no women in my department is because is strictly networking cisco. There are a lot of of CCNP and 1 CCIE out here. I haven't seen a lot of women going the cisco route.

So I take that as they aren't a big help on the technical side :)

Personally I'd like to see more women in IT. Conversing with a woman as opposed to an overweight, slick-haired, @sshole with broken english and no sense of personal hygiene would be a welcome change.
