Indavidual security certs question

livenliven Member Posts: 918
I know this is the CCSP forum, and that is the goal at hand.

However I read that some of the test/exams for the CCSP actually generate certs by themselves. However, I thought I read that that the exams had to be taken in a particular order... Is this true?

Lastly, if I were to complete one of the exams before it is no longer offered and the rest of my exams for CCSP were completed at a later time would I still be able to obtain a CCSP?

Thanks

The specializations are listed at the bottom of this page.

It looks like you will earn

    Firewall Specialist
    IOS Security Specialist
    IPS Specialist
    Information Security Specialist

    on your way to CCSP.

I'd search for the specific exams you're worried about retiring in the instant answers: http://ciscocert.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ciscocert.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=iHwQbsSi

I don't think the exams have to be taken in any specific order, but there may be a recommended order.

There is no particular order you have to take the exams. But if you "do it right" you can get one or two pieces of paper for every exam you take.

Or you leave SND for the end and get a whole stack at once.

But Cisco Specialist Certifications are only good for 2 years before you need to recertify -- and a single professional level exam doesn't do it.

I've seen you mention this before. Is this something you bother to do or are all of yours just recent acquisitions? Is recertifying them worth the effort or does the CCSP just speak for itself?

I attained the specialist certs in the process of gaining other certs and don't plan on renewing them. As an instructor I need to pass the exam related to the course before I am certified to deliver it. That would be the only reason I would end up recertifying them

And some of them you won't be able to recertify because the necessary exams are no longer available.

I think I mentioned in another thread that I have to pass a CCIE Lab or CCIE Written by next May to keep most of my CS Certs -- otherwise I have to take a bunch of individual exams to recertify them.

But they are kind of redundant (except for my IP Telephony Design Cisco Specialist Cert) once you get the "big boy cert" in that "family."

I'd suggest someone get the Cisco Firewall Specialist Certification after the CCNA and try to leverage that into a security job to get experience -- then finish the CCSP while racking up the security time.
