Advise on exams

Hello,

I was recently certified in CCNA and MCTS and am looking to persue a position in the security field.

Would it be benificial to continue on to MCSA Security Secialist as I think I could get this relatively quickly

I.e. 70-290, 70-291, 70-620 (already have), 70-299, Comptia Security+

Then move on to CCSP ?

Is the Security+ beneficial ? as I am worried at the cost and high pass mark needed.

Many thanks
Lee

Sec+ is probably one of the hardest comptia exams, but not very hard compared to CCNA...

But to do CCSP it is pretty good to have some hands on experience.

I am heading down that road because ASA, IPS, VPNs and soon the MARS are large part of my day to day routine... If I was not using this gear on a regular basis I would probably not go for CCSP...

I took the security plus and really enjoyed the subject matter. Plus it is a good primer for other security related certs (CEH, SSCP, CISSP etc...)...

    Hope that helps
encrypt the encryption, never mind my brain hurts.

    cool, thanks for the info.

I done a fair amount of study for the sec+ about 3 years ago and found it really interesting.

To be honest I think I am just trying to put off the CCSP as I found the CCNA quite tough.

If I do the MCSA in security (which I think I can bang out in a month or two as I know microsoft inside and out) and use the Security+ as one of the exams I can hit 2 birds with one stone.

Is the pass mark for Security+ as high as I have read ? something like only 4 incorrect answers out of the 100 in the test ? If so I think I'll skip this as I am financing these exams and cant afford to throw away £150 if I get 5+ questions wrong.

I currently work as a network performance anaylst for an MPLS network so really I should be doing the CCIP, however security is what interests me so I am persuing this route. I am hoping that with a MCSA +S, a CCNA, a MCTS and a Security+ I may be able to get into a security role then start on my CCSP as I will be (hopefully) using the hardware regularly.

Here is the details on the Security+ exam: http://techexams.net/co_securityplus.shtml

It's relatively high, but I don't think it's as extreme as only missing four questions.

I'm not sure exactly how the questions correspond with the scale, but 764/900 is approximately 85%. Since the test is 100 questions, it looks like you can miss around 15.

The Security+ is an excellent intro course. It's not only good as an elective for the MCSA/MCSE security but you'll find the later MS security exams actually recommend it as a reference. Also the CCSP - SND exam is essentially a Cisco-centric Security+ (tougher though). Definitely do it before the CCSP, if nothing else it will test your dedication to InfoSec :).
We responded to the Year 2000 issue with "Y2K" solutions...isn't this the kind of thinking that got us into trouble in the first place?

Great advise, looks like may planned route is the right way to go.

    Thanks !
