Material in TechExams Practice Tests

Hi all,

This is my first post here and I'm a new member. Great site!

I will be taking the Sec+ test within the next couple weeks and I feel pretty confident. I took the 40 question practice test here and scored a 90% but on the 35 question test only a 70%. When I went through the first test, I wrote down all the stuff I needed to study (got a 60% the first time just to see what I needed to read about). I found that a lot of the stuff on that test was not in the book I am studying from: the Learnkey All in One Exam Guide by Gregory White. I looked in the index for many of the topics on this site and didn't find them there so I'm wondering whether or not they will actually be covered on the exam.

I know it can't hurt to be overprepared, but I am on a tight schedule to pass the exam (i.e. my boss will pay for it if I take it within the next couple weeks, otherwise I'm on my own).

I don't want my boss to waste his money so I want to make sure I nail it on the first try. What would you suggest?

Try some exams from a few other sites as they will help to give a wider view of the exam. I found the practice exams to be kind of like the Security+ exam but the focus seemed to be more technical than the questions I ran across in the exam which were more of a process/policy sort than knowing ports and techniques.

You might want to use this as a second resource: http://www.syngress.com/catalog/?pid=4350 The PDF download is inexpensive, and it is a phenomenal Security+ resource. If money isn't an object, give the Transcender exam a shot as well.

Thanks! I also found some examcram tests. I have decided I don't care whether or not the material is in my book. If it's there on the practice tests I'm going to learn it, either via other books or Google. Time to get down to business over the next couple weeks!

Ok, now I have another question. I just did a baseline test of the Tcat practice exam to see where I stand, I got 36 wrong. Not terrible considering I didn't even read the material and about half of those I got wrong I "starred" to indicate I wasn't sure of the answer.

My question now is does the real exam have as many questions with multiple correct answers? good majority of the ones I got wrong are because I picked the "best" choice (in my opinion) and it turned out that the answers were all of the ones I had been torn between. There doesn't seem to be any indication in the questions that there are multiple correct answers (only one said to choose all that apply).

Is the real exam like this?

There should be some indication when you need to choose more than one question. I believe you will only get radio buttons (only allows you to select one answer at a time) for single-answer questions, and you will get check-boxes (allows you to select more than one answer at a time) when you are required to have multiple answers. The question should also state (choose all that apply, choose three answers, etc.) what is required of you.

The exam will specify if there are more than one answer. It will tell you to select two or select three. It will not let you proceed to the next question until you have selected the proper number of answers.

You will find questions on the exam with more than one correct answer. As always, you are instructed to select the MOST correct answer. This brings up the old joke of there being a right answer, a wrong answer and the CompTIA answer.
