question about ccnp

Ok here is my question , lets say I get my ccna, its good for three years. Then at that last third year I go for my ccnp and pass one of the tests. Well the next year my ccna expires, do I have to take the ccna again and get recertified before they will let me take my other ccnp tests? This is one of my biggest concerns thanks.

nope, im pretty sure that if you passed a professional exam within the 3 years of your ccna expiring then it automatically recertifies you for your ccna.

CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, either pass the current CCNA exam, or pass the ICND2 exam, or pass any 642 professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE written exam.

yeah my CCNA was going to expire this April so this past Feb I took the BSCI test and passed it. Now my CCNA expires Feb 2011

Yup. A 642-nnn exam will renew CCNA, CCDA, and all your professional-level Cisco certs, whereas retaking a CCNA or CCDA exam will only renew the specific cert you're retaking. And, of course, taking a CCIE written exam will renew everything across the board, including a full CCIE (lab & written) certification.

Take a look at the individual recertification requirements of the various certifications on the Cisco site, the requirements are listed as the last item on each page.

It's also the only way to renew specializations, aside from retaking the exams. Other professional-level exams will not renew them, like they do for the associate and professional certifications.

ah thats even more of a relief, i saw one guy on here that was like a gazilllion cisco certs and I was wondering how he manages to sleep between having to recertify lol

Ironically, you can also use the CCIE certifications, as well as CCIE written exams, as prerequisites for the 642 exams. So if you have CCIE, but you never took the CCNA, you can still get your CCNP. . . for reasons unknown.

My guess is he has a 54 ounce coffee cup and plans to sleep sometime after his next CCIE R&S Lab attempt.

That reminds me.... a lot of my Cisco Specialist Certifications will expire on May 18th unless I do something

you must be really smart , if your taking the lab does that mean you have already passed the written? If ya gotten recertify that means you must of taken the written awhile ago huh?
